September 2015 Honoring for Orlan

Honoring of Genevieve to Orlan
"Thank you: My idol in Meekness and Inclusivity

Orland you were a gentle, kindhearted, and transformational peacemaker and artist. You were a brother and friend to us all. Like the pliant bamboo, you were undeterred by the current turbulence of the world and instead used your gift of art, movement and music to bring inner peace and social transformation in the world. Your greatness lies in the serenity of your soul (even in sickness), the depth of your spirituality, the beauty of your kinesthetic dexterity, the calming hush of your beautiful music and yes, the INNER PEACE YOU EXUDED. Your gentle demeanor and all-embracing inclusivity offered valuable support to struggling peace advocates. You were indeed a beautiful soul to be with.

It was a blessing that I went to see last Monday: I was teary-eyed while talking with you at the same time terrified inside that the same fate that befell your kuya Fransis will also happen to you. Tama nga po ang kutob ko. You heard me say to you: Thank you very, very much “ading” brother-friend for sharing your short life with us. Your mission was accomplished! Even if you are gone, like your kuya Fransis, your love and legacy will remain. Please pray for us to continue with joy and freedom the work of peace!

Men-iyamannak la unay ken hik-a! Hik-a han esa ay nangisur-suro ken hak-en no hino han ik-kana ay menbalin ay esa ay mangidadaulo hinan kanan da ay “peace movement.” Ub-ubing ka no hak-en ngem adu-adu han inetdum ay sur-suro gapo hinan ikkam ay mengaraw, makilangen ay maya-mayat hinan hinan am-in ay klaseng di ipuga.

Honoring and celebrating Orlan..
- Marites Guingona Africa

Paalam, Orlan...kapatid, minamahal kong kasama sa paglakbay sa landas tungo sa kapayapaan. Farewell, dear gentle brother. I am deeply grateful for the gift of your comforting presence in my life, and for your companionship in this difficult and painful journey along the path of peace. You are peace. You embodied this in your being. You exuded this in your ways of becoming. You were my other wing at The Peacemakers' Circle. With you I felt I could fly above the darkness of the ailing world below to the light of hope in the goodness of the human heart, and the nobility of the human spirit. You were the yin that my yang energy turned to for balance in our workshops. You were stillness in motion, wisdom in action, quiet strength and source of comfort and assurance in communities where conflict was rife. I thank you, dearest Orlando Jr Tiu de Guzman for the blessing that you have been to me and to all of us at The Peacemakers' Circle everywhere whose lives you have touched ever so gently, ever so deeply, ever so beautifully. I love you, dearest brother. Godspeed. Rest in peace.

It's my way of saying "salamat" to a childhood sojourner nicknamed as KOOKIE who opened my world to PEACE ART, specifically Mandala Peace Art Workshops. At first, I was hesitant to join as I am not really an artist. Then Kooks introduced me to Kuya Toots. Through time, Peace Art has become my potent tool in the school, home and in the community I belong, It became my inclusive activity to my sped and classroom students, and sisters and to the children of a sleepy barrio in our hometown. You are gone now kooks, but I hope you will still hear me saying "MUCHAS GRACIAS" to Mandala Peace Art Initiative as an expression of PEACE.

A SONG FOR ORLAN...,
( Hindi paalam, andiyan ka lang.../ Not goodbye, you are just there...)

Be gentle, be gentle,
And all the world is yours
A river flowing home to sea
You shall be.

Be strong and know your heart
Protect the small, the weak,
And love like morning rain shall fall
On a song.

There is no peace
In an angry heart
The wise know the truth
There is no power stronger
Than gentleness of heart.

Beneath, the waters and the rock will turn the sand
It took a wounded man to show the world
That if we want to live
We must forgive

Oh, Lord the night is long,
The dawn cannot be far
When gentle winds of peace
Fill every heart.

A river flowing home to sea,
I shall be

Maraming Salamat Mahal Naming Orlan..SHINE ORLAN SHINE..send us the LIGHT

Honoring of Mario "Toots" Fungo for Orlan
 Dear Orlan,

As JPII said, "I am going, but am not leaving you".I know its time for you to go; your time has come; but your not leaving us, by the memories you have instill in our hearts - your PEACE and GENTLENESS will linger on, and inspire us to go on with the mission of being at the service of FAITH and PEACE.

We know, without you; Peacemakers and MPAI will never be the same again, when it started 15 years ago..It will NOW make a difference.. Ngayon pa, may kaagapay na kaming ANGEL..tagapagpa alaala, kung mahirap ang panahon, makipot ang daan at mabalakid ang patutunguhan; tungo sa daan ng KAPAYAPAAN..
(Now that we have an angel to help us, to remind us if times will be hard, if roads will be narrow and dangerous will be our destination, on the road to PEACE.)

Maraming Salamat Kapatid. ORLANDO TIU DE GUZMAN Mahal Ka Namin.! (Thank you very much Brother  ORLANDO TIU DE GUZMAN We love you.)

April 2015 Core Group Meeting at ISIS, Quezon City

The Symphony of Peace Prayers is a spiritual event  and is celebrated every year all around the world. The scheduled date for this year is May 17. Here in the Philippines, the venue will be in Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines. Members of the Mandala Peace Arts Initiative met and planned as one for the SOPP. Guests from Javita Coffee company, Jojo and Malou Alba were there to offer free coffee during the meeting. They were later invited by Toots Fungo and Gabby Medina to attend the SOPP in Baguio. Ate Genie Kupang, a birthday celebrant, brought a cake. Others brought some snacks.

Toots will be attending the SOPP in Japan so he advised the rest of the MPAI to meet again sometime soon to finalize everything. Genie will be contacting some religious organizations and indigenous groups in Baguio for the event. Gabby will be documenting the event with Marlon and will also do T-shirts for sale and button pins. Orlan will be one of the emcees aside from Genie. Others will read some prayers aside from helping out in the preparations. Everyone was excited for this trip to Baguio and to contribute for Peace here in the Philippines and around the world. May Peace Prevail On Earth! God bless to us all.
